1. Q. I’ve received a 60 minute massage before that include an intake and changing to get on the table.  Is that how you work?

A.  A 60 minute massage means that you’re on the table for a full 60 minutes.  In addition, I ask that clients book more than one hour from there schedules for a one hour massage.  Typically, I like to do a five to ten minute intake to see where the client is on that particular day and what they’d like the focus of the session to be.  In reality, an hour long session is closer to an hour and fifteen minutes.

Q.  I’ve never received massage before.  What should I expect?

A.  That can be a challenging question to answer given that each individual’s experience and bodies are very different.  That being said, massage can be a wonderful and embodying experience that can help release tension, both emotional and physical, and help an individual reconnect with themselves.

  1. Q. I’ve heard that massage is painful, is that true?

  2. A. This again, can be a tricky question to answer.  There is a phenomenon that we refer to in the world of bodywork as therapeutic discomfort.  This concept comes from the idea that over time, tissues stick together, trigger points develop and muscles become weak.  Sometimes in loosening these tissues, the client can experience a small amount of therapeutic discomfort.  It is important to note that the client is always in control of the session.

There is a mentality out in our world today that says, “no pain, no gain” and “just walk it off”.  These are two philosophies that I whole-heartedly disagree with and can even prove to be dangerous to the body and mind’s well-being.

These are only a few questions that crop up from time to time.  Please feel free to contact me with any other inquiries.
